“It’s December 15th, the one year anniversary of my operation and, of course, I am thinking of you with tears in my eyes. It is a date I will never forget and can’t thank you enough for being there for me.

I still remember (always will) waiting in my room for the operating room to open up so you could put me back together. It was a long wait. You were so patiently waiting downstairs! Then the word came. I struggled to get my contact lenses out and then was wheeled down to the prep room. And there you were in your operating garb! I can still see your face and hear your comforting reassuring voice explaining to me what was going to happen.

I thought to myself….just let go, Dr. Quirno is here and before I knew I was gone…..took 6 hours of work with your skilled hands to put in those screws.

Each day you would visit me in the hospital and it was the holiday season!

Every time anyone asks me how my neck is, I gratefully respond …I was blessed to have a wonderful surgeon, Dr. Quirno, who performed my surgery. I am here because of him.

On this day I had to write and speak to you to tell you how grateful I will always be to you. You are certainly a special man.

May the joy and blessings of this season always surround you.”

“I became a patient of Dr. Quirno‘s in August of 2023. I was having extreme back pain and was taking steroids and doing PT. Dr. Quirno reviewed my MRI with me and, after discussing how pain management and PT were not helping, said I would need surgery. He explained everything in detail to me, explained things to my family at the hospital. After my surgery he came to my room daily to see my progress and to answer any questions I had. Every time I went to his office for my follow up visits I never felt rushed and always got to ask any questions.”

“I was in need of lumbar surgery and was nervous about finding a Dr. who could do what was necessary without leaving me with MORE problems. Dr. Quirno was recommended and after meeting him, his professionalism, and answering my questions, I chose him to do the surgery. In January 2019 he performed laminectomies and fusions L3-L5. I have been home over 3 weeks and feel that I am progressing well. Dr. Quirno was truly a FIND!! NYU Longone Hosp has a wonderful staff in all areas I came in contact with.”

“Dr. Quirno did a minimally invasive vertebral fusion surgery for me and I can’t recommend him highly enough. He explains everything thoroughly and treats you with care and respect. Before my surgery I couldn’t stand without pain for more than 5 minutes and had tingling in my toes. He let me know my condition was serious and recommended surgery, but did not rush me. I got a second opinion and considered my options. I chose Dr. Quirno because he’s a top expert and teaches minimally invasive techniques. I spent only one night in the hospital and was walking the next day. After 6 months, I was back to regular activities. It has now been one year and I am pain-free, doing tennis, yoga, biking and whatever I want. I feel like my body is half the age it was. Dr. Quirno is an expert surgeon. You’ll be in good hands.”

“Doctor Quirno performed a triple ACDF on me one year ago. My recovery went smoothly, the hospital experience was as idyllic as a hospital could be, with great views, kind workers, and a calm atmosphere. My pain’s gone, my scar is barely visible, and my spinal cord is no longer under compression! I’d had chronic mild pain for many years, but it never felt particularly serious. I finally got imaging when it started becoming a little more frequent and severe. I was horrified to learn my spine was severely compressed, and while the pain was bearable, I was facing future loss of function. I would have done anything to avoid surgery, as I’d seen bad outcomes with family members in the past. I met with four spine surgeons, and talked to friends and friends of friends with medical, spinal, and orthopedic expertise. Even the most anti-surgery people insisted I needed surgery, and recovery would be easier when I was younger. Each surgeon I met with had different preferred methods of performing the ACDF. I hoped to avoid an iliac bone graft, which another surgeon had told me was absolutely necessary. Dr. Quirno said he would plan to use a DePuy 3d-printed titanium and cadaver bone insert instead of doing the graft. He said he could pivot to the graft mid surgery if he saw my bone health required the change. That was a huge relief! This was my first experience with a serious medical issue and it was wildly stressful. Dr. Quirno‘s calming demeanor and surgical expertise helped ease the whole process. I hope I never need spine surgery again, but if I do, I’m going back to him.”

“Dr. Quirno is a soft-spoken, highly intelligent and competent surgeon. He performed an ALIF on my spine 4/26/21. I just had my last follow up with him. My discs have totally fused and the surgery was an overwhelming success. Dr. Quirno explained everything that was going to happen step by step. Prior to surgery I was in constant pain. Pain meds and therapy stopped helping me. I am only 50 years old and couldn’t stand being in pain all the time. Dr. Quirno has given me my quality of life back and I don’t regret my decision to have back surgery in the least. I would highly recommend Dr. Quirno to anyone suffering with back issues. His office staff is professional and efficient too.”

“Dr Quirno is an excellent spine surgeon. Loved the fact that he was associated with NYU, and I could plan visits with him on Staten Island without going into his Manhattan office.
He was able to explain why I needed to have spinal fusion in an easy to understand way. He has a very soft manner about him and I felt very relaxed in his presence. He also partnered with a neurosurgeon for my surgery. I felt I had the best care from both of them before and post surgery.

It has been six months since my surgery and I feel great. Able to walk without pain or having to sit every few feet. I’m so pleased and happy that I found a wonderful caring surgeon.”

“Dr. Quirno is a gifted Spine Surgeon. Extremely professional with a conservative approach towards surgery. Prior to surgery, Dr. Quirno suggested that I attempt non surgical pain management options, that resulted in temporary relief, it became evident that I was a candidate for surgery. Dr. Quirno thoroughly explained the procedure Anterior cervical discectomy with fusion. After surgery I was released from the hospital the next day. My recovery went well. I returned to work in 6 weeks. Thanks to Dr. Quirno, my quality of life has improved. Dr. Quirno has a high level of competence in his field. Every staff member in his office as well as NYU Hospital, demonstrated professionalism as well. I will forever be grateful for the quality of care that I have received as a patient of Dr.Quirno. I highly recommend Dr.Quirno to anyone who is considering spine surgery.”

“Dr. Quirno is that rare breed of surgeon who takes the time to ensure that his patients and their significant others have ALL their questions answered. Add this to caring, a professional manner and a high level of competence. I have worked as a nurse and a standardized patient (an actor who evaluates medical students’ abilities and competence) and speak from this experience as well as having been a patient. I felt very comfortable dealing with Dr. Quirno, and was very happy with the surgery.”
